Dress to Impress: Your Guide To Races Styling
Dress to Impress: Your Guide To Races Styling
Race season is here! The races are a fantastic day out, but you will most likely find yourself unsure of what to wear to the races, even though some races don't have a strict dress code there is still pressure to look your best on the day. Thinking about both style and practicality is important, which is why we have put together some style tips to keep you looking good no matter the event.

Dressing For The Occasion
Although most race courses don't require you to wear specific attire, smart is often preferred and usually opted for. We would recommend staying away from any kind of activewear and double checking your event’s dress code before deciding on your races outfit. Smart attire doesn’t always mean a three piece suit is required, a smart shirt with some chino trousers would work just as well.
The races are the perfect opportunity to show off your personality. Why not wear a bolder, patterned tie or a shirt with a more distinctive colour or pattern? Try new colours to spice up your races outfit such as blue or red and pair with a light beige jacket and some light cotton chino trousers for a stand out sophisticated style.

Comfort Is Key
To keep comfortable in your race outfit while still looking smart, we recommend pairing some chino trousers with a plain or patterned shirt. Make sure your shirt has enough room for you to move comfortably, but still has a form fitting silhouette. A 100% cotton shirt is a good choice for the warmer days keeping you comfortable with the breathable fabric.
Although it may be tempting, try to avoid buying a new pair of shoes as well. If you don’t have any that are suitable, look for comfortable, smart shoes and break them in since you will be standing for a lot of time during the event.
White Short Sleeve Non-Iron Shirt
Dress For The Weather
While you can hope for warm sun for your day at the races, the UK weather isn’t always on our side. We suggest checking the weather forecast for the area you are attending the races in a couple of days before to make sure you're prepared. With most races happening in the warmer months, a short sleeve shirt is always a good option to keep cool and comfortable. Made with a cotton rich blend fabric, these shirts are made to be breathable to keep you cool through warmer days.
If you find your race day forecast to be a little cooler than you wanted, layering will be your best friend! In this case, a cotton rich shirt underneath a merino blend jumper gives you the option to stay warm, whilst allowing you the chance to cool off if needed. Style this with a suit jacket and some simple accessories like sunglasses or a silver watch for the ultimate race day look.
Flexible Styling
Styling a shirt that can be dressed up, worn under a suit jacket or dressed down with a pair of jeans gives you that much more flexibility and ensures that you can re-wear your race outfit for different occasions. A pair of trousers that can be used for multiple occasions allows you to be able to wear them to the office or to a wedding. We suggest wearing a bolder coloured patterned shirt to add some character to your look. When adding colour remember the rule of 3, limiting an outfit to 3 tones or colours keeps your look clean and makes sure that it doesn’t look too overwhelming. If you are new to adding patterns to your looks, start with adding patterned accessories, for example, a patterned tie to give something new to your style.

Complement Your Race Day Attire With Accessories
When deciding what to wear to the races, don’t forget about the accessories! The small details that accessories contribute are the important cherry on top of your final race day outfit. Add a pop of colour to compliment a neutral outfit with a bright silk or patterned tie or handkerchief pocket square. If your outfit is already looking quite characterful, pair with a plain tie and matching handkerchief set instead; this will add subtle detail, without being too overpowering.
